The image of each dilation, with the respective center of dilation and dilation factors

What is dilation

Dilation is a transformation in geometry that changes the size of a figure without altering its shape.

During dilation, each point of the original figure remains on the same line, but the distance between the points and the center of dilation is either stretched or compressed.

When the dilation factor is

  • greater than 1 the object is stretched
  • less that 1 the object is compressed
