What translation takes (-6,3) to (0,-2)?

Explanation:

Any co-ordinate is set out in the form (x , y), where x is the horizontal translation and y is the vertical translation from zero. To work what translation has taken place here, we just need to work out the difference between the two x points, and the difference between the two y points. This can be done by subtracting one from the other. Hence:

Δx = 0 - (-6)

Δx = 6

∴ we have a translation of 6 to the right (positive value)

Δy = -2 - 3

Δy = -5

∴ we have a translation of 5 down (negative value)
