A ball was displaced from O to A long straight line, the distance of 5m. It was later returned to O along the same path. What is the resultant displacement and what is the total distance traveled?

The resultant displacement of the ball is zero, since it returned to its initial position O. The total distance traveled by the ball is 10 m, since it covered 5 m in each direction. This is the difference between distance and displacement: distance is the total length of the path taken by an object, while displacement is the shortest straight-line distance between the initial and final positions of the object.
