Answer:

x - 4y = 12

-x-3y = 2

we have x and -x, so the x which have opposite signs cancel each other out, leaving -4y-3y=12+2

-7y = 14

-y=14/7 =2

y = -2

we calculate x

x-4y=12

x-4(-2)=12

x+8=12

x=12-8=4
