the smallest number x and the largest x + 76 because the difference between the 2 numbers is 76

The product = x (x + 76) = x² + 76x

we find the minimum value, with the formula:

x = -b /2a with x = 1 b =76

x = -76 / (2*1)

x = -76 / 2

x = -38

x = the smallest number is -38 and the largest is -38+76=38
