Objective: The student will be exposed to significant current events topics that are

shaping French and francophone areas.
Directions: This discussion is in English. In this discussion, research a current
event and present a detailed discussion of it to the class. The topic must be (or
have been) current within the past few weeks. Be sure to mention at least three
reasons, in your opinion, why the event is important. The current events topic could
involve France or a francophone country or region. If a topic has already been
chosen, do not duplicate the topic.
Provide the URL of the news story that you discuss. Here are some good sources to
begin: France24 (24 news); Le Monde (newspaper of record in France); Jeune
Afrique (news from the African continent). Make sure to choose France or a
francophone area from the options so that the current event relates to this course.
Your initial post is due Thursday night, and responses are due Sunday night.
Read your peers' posts in order to enrich your understanding of the French-speaking
world. Respond to at least two of your peers in order to engage in a discussion.
Successful responses are approximately 100 words in length and include comments
and questions. Acknowledge comments on your own thread.
