To expand the expression -8(-x-1/4y+5), we can distribute the -8 to each term inside the parentheses:
-8(-x-1/4y+5) = -8 * -x - 8 * (1/4y) - 8 * 5
Simplifying each term:
= 8x + 2y - 40
