Answer:

The horizontal speed does affect time in the air.

S = 1/2 g t^2 describes the distance fallen (55 m)

55 m = 1/2 * 9.80 m/s^2 * t^2 solve for t

t = (2 * 55 / 9.80)^1/2 s

t = 3.35 s time to fall 55 m
