and the cost per ride is 75C. If his parents gave him $40, write and solve a linear

Answer:

Evan can go on 40 rides.

Explanation:

  • The situation indicates the Evan's total cost is a function of the number of rides he can go on.

If we allow to T represent the total cost of Evan attending the fair and R to represent the number of rides he can go on, we can model the situation using the equation:

T = 0.75R + 10, where:

  • 0.75 is the slope (i.e, cost increases by $0.75 as the number of rides increases),
  • and 10 is the y-intercept (i.e., Evan would pay $10 even if he goes on 0 rides).

Since Evan's total cost can't exceed the $40 he was given, we can plug in 40 for T to determine how many rides he can go on with this amount:

(40 = 0.75R + 10) - 10

(30 = 0.75R) / 0.75

40 = R

Therefore, Evan can go on 40 rides.
