A boy put 140 toy soldiers. He put 14 soldiers in the fortress and divided the rest of the soldiers into 14 equal groups. If he used 3 of the groups as attackers, how many toy soldiers are attackers?

Answer:

soldiers in the fortress: 14

this leaves 140-14=126 soldiers

he divides 126 soldiers into 14 equal groups, i.e. 126/14=9 soldiers in each of the 14 groups

he used 3 groups as attackers, so 3*9 =27 attackers
