It is always true an equation in slope-intercept form represents a direct variation.

For example, the amount of money you earn by hours.

Let:

x = Number of hours

y = Amount of money

a = Money per hour = $5

The equation will be:

\begin{gathered} y=ax \\ y=5x \end{gathered}
