Alex has $20 and Bobbie has $25.

(1) Write down the ratio Alex's money: Bobbie's money
in its simplest form.
(ii) Alex and Bobbie each spend 1/5 of their money.
Find the ratio Alex's remaining money: Bobbie's remaining money in its simplest form
(iii) Alex and Bobbie then each spend $4.

ratio of Alex's money : Bobbie's money

= 20 : 25 ( divide both parts by 5 )

= 4 : 5 ( in simplest form)

(ii)


(1)/(5) × $20 = $4


(1)/(5) × $25 = $5

Alex now has $20 - $4 = $16

Bobbie now has $25 - $5 = $20

ratio is now 16 : 20 ( divide both parts by 4 )

= 4 : 5 ( in simplest form )

(iii)

After both spend $4

Alex now has $16 - $4 = $12

Bobbie now has $20 - $4 = $16

ratio is now 12 : 16 ( divide both parts by 4 )

= 3 : 4 ( in simplest form )
