Newton’s second law of motion says that the net force acting on an object is equal to its mass multiplied by the acceleration. If the object has a constant velocity, that would mean the acceleration is 0, thus making the net force 0. When there is an unbalanced force acting on an object, the net force would not be equal to zero because the object would have a nonzero acceleration.
