Please read Robert May's article "Young American Males" and complete the following assignment.
Purpose: To practice understanding a secondary source argument.
Task:
1. Make an outline of the main ideas. Put what you think is the author's thesis in quotes, and note
the page number in parentheses.
2. Out of all the points in the essay, what do you want to talk about in your group thread? This could
include items you found interesting, confusing, or infuriating.
3. What did you think of the main argument of the essay? Did you find it persuasive? How did it
change the way you think about this topic?
4. Write an analytical, idea-focused paragraph. Integrate a brief treatment of the author's thesis and
supporting arguments, with your thoughts and evaluations. Your paragraph should avoid retelling
the content and instead focus on important arguments and ideas of the author, and your thoughts
about those ideas.
5. Explain how some ideas, events, and terms from lectures help put this essay into a larger context.
