A jeweler makes an ocean-inspired necklace using a total of 60 snail shells and shark teeth. The ratio of snail shells to shark teeth is 5: 1. How many of each does she use?

50 snail shells to 10 shark teeth

why so?

disclaimer: I don't think this is the "right" way to solve these types of equations, so this part may not help.

5+1x10 is 60.

5x10 is 50.

1x10 is 10.

50+10 equals 60
