Solving a linear equation

We have the following equation

\begin{gathered} (5)/(6)=(1)/(3)+d \\ \end{gathered}

We substract 1/3 each side:

\begin{gathered} -(1)/(3)+(5)/(6)=-(1)/(3)+(1)/(3)+d \\ -(1)/(3)+(5)/(6)=0+d \\ -(1)/(3)+(5)/(6)=d \\ \end{gathered}

We multiply each side of the fraction 1/3 by 2:

-(1)/(3)=-(1\cdot2)/(3\cdot2)=-(2)/(6)

Then

\begin{gathered} -(1)/(3)+(5)/(6)=d \\ -(2)/(6)+(5)/(6)=d \\ (3)/(6)=(1)/(2)=d \end{gathered}

Answer: d = 1/2
