The domain of a function refers to the width of the function or the values along the x axis (horizontal). Alternatively range refers to the height of the function along the y axis.

as we can see in the image, the lowest x value the function reaches is -1, whilst the line continues infinitely in the positive direction. therefore we say the domain for the function is [-1, ∞]
