Which equation would you use to solve the following situation?

The first 3 people arrive at a party. Several more people come, and now there are 14 people at the party. How many people arrived after the first three people?

x + 14 = 3
3 + 14 = x
x - 3 = 14
3 + x = 14

3 + x = 14. 14 is the final number and 3 is the first. X is telling us how many more people came after the first three.
