y = mx + c ( m is the slope (gradient) and c the y- intercept )

given gradient m = 4 , then

y = 4x + c ← is the partial equation

to find c , substitute the point (- 2, 5 ) for x and y into the partial equation

5 = 4(- 2) + c = - 8 + c ( add 8 to both sides )

13 = c

y = 4x + 13 ← equation of line
