Answer: (-2, 3]

That answer is in interval notation. We go from -2 to 3, excluding -2 but including 3.

A parenthesis is used to exclude the endpoint.

A square bracket is needed to include the endpoint.

If you wanted to convert that to an inequality, then it could be -2 < x ≤ 3
