If you were to have a linear equation, say y=2x+1, x would be your input, and y is your output, similar to how an independent variable affects a dependent variable.

Going back to the equation, if you were to "put in" a value for x, this would affect the y value. If we were to plug in 2 for x, 2(2)+1=5. so y=5, and the coordinate would be (2,5). Here are a few input/output values for that equation
