The race will take the cyclists through 100 miles of rugged terrain. It starts near the beach, where the riders will have to deal with sandy trails. It then moves upward into the forest, where the trail becomes harder to handle because of the way the ground is shaped. The branches, rocks, and pebbles are always a problem for riders. When the riders reach the end of the forest, they find themselves faced with the hardest part of the race, the mountain trail. As riders move up the mountain, the rocks and branches are replaced by cars, as riders have to share the roadway with motorists. The biggest obstacle, however, is the air, which gets thinner as the riders go higher. The thin air makes it harder for the riders to breathe deeply. Some can’t get enough oxygen to their muscles and get terrible cramps. Overall, the race may cause a lot of pain, but the winner gets $500,000.
