SOLUTION

Write out the equation given

5x-7y=-8

To find y-intercept, we replace x with 0, hence

\begin{gathered} \text{for x=0} \\ 5(0)-7y=-8 \\ -7y=-8 \\ \text{Divide both sides by -7} \\ -(7y)/(-7)=-(8)/(-7) \\ \text{Hence } \\ y=(8)/(7) \\ \end{gathered}

Hence

Y - intercept is ( 0, 8/7 )

Similarly, for x-intercept, we replace y with 0 and find x

\begin{gathered} \text{for y=0} \\ 5x-7(0)=-8 \\ \text{Hence } \\ 5x=-8 \\ \text{Divide both sides by 5, } \\ (5x)/(5)=-(8)/(5) \\ \text{Hence } \\ x=-(8)/(5) \end{gathered}

Hence

x- intercept is ( - 8/5 , 0 )
