The width of a rectangular rug is 4.25 inches longer than twice its length. If the perimeter of the rug is 56.5, which equation represents this situation?

Answer:

w = 4.25 + 2l

2l + 2w = 56.5

2l + 2(4.25 + 2l) = 56.5

2l + 8.5 + 4l = 56.5

6l + 8.5 = 56.5

6l = 48

l = 8 inches, w = 20.25 inches
