When two variables are observed to be moving in the same direction, this is referred to as a "Positive correlation" or a "Direct correlation". This is a key concept in statistics.
In a positive correlation, as one variable increases, the other also increases. Similarly, as one variable decreases, the other also decreases. This direct relationship between the two variables is what gives it the term "Direct correlation".
The strength and direction of the correlation are often expressed with the correlation coefficient, which ranges between -1 and 1. A positive correlation is signaled by a correlation coefficient closer to +1.
Please remember, a positive correlation does not imply causation. Even if two variables move together, it does not necessarily mean that changes in one variable are causing changes in the other.
