Koloy can do 52 push-ups in 2 minutes. His friend Justin can do 130 push-ups in 5 minutes. Do these rates form a proportion? Explain.

Answer: Yes they do

Explanation: With something like this, just divide Koloy's rate by 2 to find his rate per 1 second(which was 26), then divide Justin's rate by 5 to find his rate per 1 second,(which was 26).

How to solve other questions like this one: To find if different rates proportion find their rate per 1 second. Or find both their rates per 2 or 3 or 4 seconds if its easier. Another way do do this would be to add the lower rate per second to itself until it has the same rate as the other number, if they are a different number, then you would know.

Answer:

Koloy: 52 push-ups in 2 minutes = 26 push-ups per minute

Justin: 130 push-ups in 5 minutes = 26 push-ups per minute

So these rates form a proportion because they are equal.
