Jayice has a VIP membership to a movie theatre which costs $27 a year and $6.00 for each movie she sees. Claire doesnt have a membership, so she pays 8.25 for each movie she sees. How many movies would the two girls have to see in a year in order to pay the same amount

Answer:

Let’s denote the number of movies both girls see as x.

For Jayice, the total cost per year is the cost of the VIP membership plus the cost per movie times the number of movies. This can be expressed as: 27 + 6x.

For Claire, the total cost per year is just the cost per movie times the number of movies, which is: 8.25x.

The girls would pay the same amount when these two expressions are equal, so we can set up the equation: 27 + 6x = 8.25x.

Solving this equation for x gives:

8.25x - 6x = 27 2.25x = 27 x = 27 / 2.25 x = 12

So, both girls would need to see 12 movies in a year in order to pay the same amount.
