President Roosevelt issued an executive order to eliminate discrimination in the U.S. defense industry based on race, color, or national origin. This order was known as Executive Order 8802 and was signed on June 25, 1941. The order prohibited discrimination in defense industries and established the Fair Employment Practices Committee (FEPC) to monitor hiring practices. The FEPC was responsible for ensuring that employers did not discriminate against workers on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin. This was a significant step towards ending racial discrimination in the United States and helped to pave the way for greater civil rights for all Americans.
