cross multiply

5(X-9) = 6(2X-4)

expand the bracket

5X-45 = 12X-24

collect like terms (the signs change when going over the equals sign)

5X-12X = -24+45

-7X = 21

divide both sides by 7

(-7X)/-7 = 21/-7

x = -3
