The probability that a student likes only Maths but not English is 2/13.

What is probability?

Probability is the chance of occurrence of a certain event out of the total no. of events that can occur in a given context.

Let, N(U) = 25 the total number of students.

Similarly, N(M) = 15 and N(E) = 13.

9 students Maths or English.

So, The number of students like both subjects, N(M∩E) = 13 + 15 - 17.

N(M∩E) = 11.

N(E∩M') = N(M) - N(M∩E). (only English)

N(E∩M') = 15 - 11.

N(E∩M') = 4.

Therefore, The probability that a student likes only English but not maths is,

= 4/26.

= 2/13.
