Which has greater kinetic energy, a car traveling at 40 mph or a half-as-massive car traveling at 80 mph?

Step-by-step explanation:

KE = 1/2 m v^2 <==== you can see velocity is a bigger factor in Kinetic Energy than mass is

the 80 mph vehicle will have greater KE in this instance

say mass is 2 for the first car

1/2 * 2 * 40^2 = 1600 units

for the second car mass is 1

1/2 * 1 * 80^2 = 3200 units <===== DOUBLE the KE of the first car !!
