Mae-Ying bought one package of paper that cost $1.98. She also bought 2 pens for $0.49 each. The total tax was $0.18.

The paper - $1.98
A pen - $0.49 each (she bought 2)
The total tax - $0.18

To figure out the price of both pens you can add $0.49 + $0.49 or multiply $0.49 by 2. It would be $0.98 for both pens.

Then, you add everything up.

$1.98 + $0.98 + $0.18 = $3.14

The total cost of all the items (including tax) is $3.14.

Hope this helps!
