x = ± i*√7 (for x € C)

Explanation:

6x * y = 6x * x = 6x² = -42 divide both sides by 6

x² = -42/6 = -7 , we then take the positive and negative roots of -7 which (if we are looking for an answer within real numbers doesn't exist)

but if we try solving for x in the complex numbers

we get : x = ±√-7 = ±√(7*-1) = ±√7 * √-1 = ±√7 i
