It takes a hose 4 minutes to fill a rectangular aquarium 10 inches long, 11 inches wide, and 13 inches tall. How long will it take the same hose to fill an aquarium measuring 25 inches by 28 inches by 30 inches? minutes

Explanation:

the volume of a rectangular prism is

length × width × height

it takes the hose 4 minutes to fill

10 × 11 × 13 in³ = 1,430 in³

the filling rate (ratio) is therefore

1430/4 in³/minute

the other volume is

25 × 28 × 30 in³ = 21,000 in³

since we are using the same hose (water supply), the filling rate of the larger aquarium (21000 in³ in x minutes) must be the same as the filling rate of the smaller aquarium :

21000/x = 1430/4

multiplying both sides by 4 and by x

21000 × 4 = 1430x

84000 = 1430x

x = 84000 / 1430 = 58.74125874... minutes

≈ 59 minutes
