A uniform magnetic field of 0.0240 T points vertically upward.

a) Find the magnitude of the magnetic flux through the bottom of the open-topped rectangular box shown in the figure, given that the dimensions of the box are L=30.0cm, W=12.0cm, and H=14.5cm. (in units Wb)
b) Find the magnitude of the magnetic flux through the front side of the open-topped rectangular box. (in units Wb)
c) Find the magnitude of the magnetic flux through the back side of the open-topped rectangular box. (in units Wb)
d) Find the magnitude of the magnetic flux through the left side of the open-topped rectangular box. (in units Wb)
e) Find the magnitude of the magnetic flux through the right side of the open-topped rectangular box. (in units Wb)

Answer:

Φ = B * A

A = .30 m * .12 m = .036 m^2 area perpendicular to direction of flux

Φ = .024 W/m^2 * .036 m^2 = 8.64 * E-4 Webers

Only the bottom of the box is perpendicular to the magnetic field

Φ is the flux into the bottom of the box (and out of)

There is no flux thru any other portions of the box
