Explanation:

convert the fractions to whole numbers. the first one is:

4 × 7, then add 3, or 31/4.

the second one is 6 × 1, then add 5, or 11/6.

then you have 31/4 + 11/6. then you make a common denominator, which would be 12 (6 and 4 both go into 12).

3 × 31 = 93, so then the first fractions becomes:

93/12

second fraction becomes 11 × 2 = 22, then:

22/12.

so now you have 93/12 + 22/12 = 115/12, or 9 7/12

Answer:

9 7/12

Explanation:

12 is a suitable common denominator.

(7 3/4) + (1 5/6) = (7 9/12) + (1 10/12) = (7+1) +(9/12 +10/12)

= 8 + 19/12 = 9 + 7/12 . . . . . . change 19/12 to 1 7/12

= 9 7/12

_____

My calculator works with mixed numbers very nicely, as many graphing calculators do.
