8 hours

===========

The distance between Istanbul and the starting point of the journey is the same, regardless of the speed of the plane.

In the return trip, the plane flew at a speed of 220 mph and took 12 hours. So we can calculate the distance:

  • distance = speed * time
  • distance = 220 * 12
  • distance = 2640 miles

Now, we can calculate the time taken for the trip there:

  • time = distance / speed
  • time = 2640 / 330
  • time = 8 hours

Therefore, the trip there took 8 hours.
