3x + 12 - 2x = x + 4x + 4 ← collect like terms on both sides

x + 12 = 5x + 4 ( subtract 5x from both sides )

- 4x + 12 = 4 ( subtract 12 from both sides )

- 4x = - 8 ( divide both sides by - 4 )


(-4)/(-4) x =
(-8)/(-4) , that is

x = 2
