What is the octet rule?

Atoms want to be bonded in groups of eights.
Atoms want their outer electron shells to be filled.
Atoms want eight electrons in their shells.

Answer: Atoms want to be bonded in groups of eights.

Like the name suggests, it’s the rule of 8, but there are exceptions to this rule so be careful, the rule is not 100% reliable. For instance, hydrogen can only hold up to two electrons in their out-most energy level.
