Explanation:

x = first number x+1 = second number

(x+1)^2 - x^2 = 239 <=====the difference of their squares , expand

x^2 + 2x + 1 - x^2 = 239 simplify

2x+1 = 239

2x = 238

x = 119 x+1 = 120
