Given:

A rectangular piece of land has an area of
(3)/(4) square mile.

The land is
2(1)/(2) miles long.

To find:

The width of the rectangular land.

Solution:

We have,

Area of a rectangle =
(3)/(4) square mile.

Length =
2(1)/(2) miles

We know that, area of a rectangle is

A=l* b

(3)/(4)=2(1)/(2)* b

(3)/(4)=(2(2)+1)/(2)b

(3)/(4)=(5)/(2)b

Multiply both sides by
(2)/(5), we get

(2)/(5)* (3)/(4)=(2)/(5)* (5)/(2)b

(6)/(20)=b

(3)/(10)=b

Therefore, the width of the land is
(3)/(10) miles.
