x = 4 and y = 1

Explanation:

2x + 2y = 10 (1)

3x + 4y = 16 (2)

from equation (1)

2(x + y) = 10

x + y = 5

x = 5 - y (3)

by substituting the value of x into equation (2)

3(5 - y) + 4y = 16

15 - 3y + 4y = 16

y = 16 - 15 = 1

by substituting value of y into equation (3)

x = 5 - 1 = 4
