given a and b are parallel lines , then

(12x - 29)° and (4x + 1)° are same- side exterior angles and sum to 180°

sum the 2 angles, equate to 180 and solve for x

12x - 29 + 4x + 1 = 180 ( simplify left side )

16x - 28 = 180 ( add 28 to both sides )

16x = 208 ( divide both sides by 16 )


(16)/(16) x =
(208)/(16) , that is

x = 13
