Answer:

area of shaded part = 21x^2 + 5x square units

Explanation:

The area of the shaded part = area of the triangle - area of the rectangle

Area of the triangle = (bh)/2 = (6x)(8x+2)/2 = (48x^2 + 12x) / 2 = 24x^2 + 6x

Area of the rectangle = length * width = (3x+1)*x = 3x^2+x

The area of the shaded part = area of the triangle - area of the rectangle

area of shaded part = 24x^2 + 6x - (3x^2 + x)

area of shaded part = 24x^2 + 6x - 3x^2 -x

area of shaded part = 21x^2 + 5x square units

Answer:

shaded area = 21x² + 5x

Explanation:

shaded area (A) = area of triangle - area of rectangle

area of triangle =
(1)/(2) × base × height

base = 8x + 2 and height = 6x , then

area of triangle =
(1)/(2) × 6x(8x + 2) = 3x(8x + 2) = 24x² + 6x

area of rectangle = length × width

length = 3x + 1 and width = x , then

area of rectangle = x(3x + 1) = 3x² + x

Then

A = 24x² + 6x - (3x² + x ) ← distribute parenthesis by - 1

= 24x² + 6x - 3x² - x ← collect like terms

= 21x² + 5x
