there are 4 different types of slope: negative, positive, zero and undefined. the slope of a line is defined as the change in y-coordinate with respect to the change in x-coordinate of that line aka rate of change. the slope of a line is the measure of the steepness and direction of the line. with the different types of slope, there are different characteristics they must meet as well as the equation which is rise over run.
• negative slope: line goes downward to the right as x increases. m<0
• positive slope: line goes upward to the right as x increases. m>0
• zero slope: a horizontal line has a slope of zero. m=0. for any 2 points, the y values will be equal to the same real number. the equation will be y=some number.
• undefined slope: a vertical line has an undefined slope. m is undefined. for any 2 points, the x values will be equal to the same real number. x=some number.
