Jackie and I met in the middle of seventh grade, roughly three years ago. She had recently relocated to Houston from Oklahoma City and was introduced to our class that morning.

I was sitting with the rest of the theatre club at lunchtime when I observed her standing awkwardly with her tray. I could tell she was pondering where to sit. I knew exactly how she felt, having only arrived in the neighborhood a few years previously.
"Hey!" I said, feeling nice. "Would you like to sit with us?"

Jackie smiled up at the table where Mindy, the "coolest" girl in school, and her friends sat, but when she noticed no one was looking at her, she turned, bewildered, and saw me waving at her. What happened next took me by surprise. She turned around with a haughty expression on her face.

"A 'no, thank you' would have been a bit kinder," I said with a chuckle.

Lindsey, one of my friends, patted me on the back. "Look at her outfit—designer jeans and a trendy top." She's clearly one of those." She shrugged and continued, "Some girls just care about being 'popular.'"

The newcomer straightened her back. She approached Mindy, and while I couldn't hear what she said, I did see Mindy chuckle and wave her away. The unfortunate girl was turned down. Mindy must have made a harsh remark about Jackie because eruptive laughter and hateful stares were directed at her. I watched Jackie walk across the room to an empty table. She appeared to be about to cry.

The irony made me shake my head. What goes around comes around quickly, I reasoned.

I went to the restroom after lunch. I washed my hands when I heard sniffling from one of the stalls. "Are you okay?" I exclaimed. There was no response. I wasn't sure what more to say so I just said, "The bell will ring soon."

With that, I heard the lock click and the next girl emerged.

"Hi," I answered, surprised. I extended my hand. "I'm Steph."

"I'm Jackie," she introduced herself, shaking my hand. Her wet eyes and pink nose indicated that she had been crying, "I apologize for the delay. "I was quite rude."

"Not as rude as Mindy was," I replied, smiling sympathetically. "Come on, come on. We need to get to class."

Answer: D. Don't wait for people to be friendly show them how

Step-by-step explanation:

In this story we are introduced to a girl named Steph who offered a new girl, Jackie, a space to sit during lunch time. Jackie rebuffed her offer a bit rudely as she wanted to sit with "cooler" kids. The "cooler" kids rebuffed her as well to the point that she was in tears.

Steph met Jackie after lunch and instead of gloat, offered her friendship again. This time Jackie was nicer. It goes to show that sometimes people might not be friendly at first but, we can show them how.
