Garcia describes the reasons that race is considered a “discredited concept in human biology.”

Despite this scientific fact, most people continue to believe that race is “real.” Why do you
think race has continued to be an important social reality even after it has been discredited
scientifically?

2. Members of some ethnic groups are able to practice symbolic ethnicity, limited or occasional
displays of ethnic pride and identity. Why can ethnicity be displayed in an optional way while
race cannot?

Answer:

Answer in explanation.

Step-by-step explanation:

Of course this is always an explanation that has no real answer. Race is often an important social reality due to how much race has affected humanity. A prime example of race being an important social reality is remembering slavery. America had a whole civil war over slavery and race. Even after the civil war, racism was still existent because of this idea of how a person is better than others. It's a sensitive topic to discuss because of past discrimination that can never be reversed. In summary, race is an important social reality because of the hardships and discrimination that people have faced. With slavery showing how terrible racism could be.

Ethnicity has always been somewhat blocked out. Most people don't really appreciate ethnicity and there's still some anger directed towards these ethnicities. Ethnicity can be displayed because sometimes anyone can become part of this ethnicity. Race is something you are born with. It is stuck with you and it's very hard for a group to express their race like ethnic groups can. It might even be insulting. Ethnicity can be displayed because anyone can be part of that ethnic group while race can not because people are born with race and it might seem insulting.
