Question:

The weekly sale S (in thousands of units) for the t^th week after the introduction of the product in the market is given by S = (1201)/(t² + 100). In which week would the sale (S) have been 6?

Solution:

Weekly sales in thousands: S where S = 6 (in thousands)

The number of weeks: t

S = (120t) / (t² + 100)

6 = (120t) / (t² + 100)

6(t² + 100) = 120

6t² + 600 = 120t

6t²- 120t + 600 = 0

6 (t² - 20t + 100) = 0

6 (t - 10) (t - 10) = 0

t - 10 = 0

t = 10

Therefore,the sale should have been 6 (in thousands) or 6,000 on the 10th week....
