let n be the smallest integer, then

the 3 consecutive integers are n + 2 , n + 4 , n + 6

sum the 4 integers and equate to 164, solving for n

n + n + 2 + n + 4 + n + 6 = 164 ( simplify left side )

4n + 12 = 164 ( subtract 12 from both sides )

4n = 152 ( divide both sides by 4 )

n = 38
