During a clearance sale at a jewelry store, certain items were marked down 20%. One day, an additional 15% was taken off already reduced prices. If a bracelet originally sold for $68, what was the final price after all discounts had been taken? Round to the nearest cent.

Answer:

$46.24

Explanation:

$68 is the original price

First, take off 20%

68*0.2 = $13.60 - - - that's the first discount.

So 68-13.60 = 54.40 === that's the price after the first discount of 20%.

Now we need to take off 15%.

54.4 * 0.15 = 8.16 - - - - that's the 2nd discount.

54.4 - 8.16 = 46.24

Another quick way is 68(1-0.2) * (1-0.15) = 46.24
